An Important letter from our House:

Hi there!

We are excited to have started our new series this last week on mental health. We are going to continue to talking about anxiety, depression and other mental health disorders. It is no surprise that our culture talks a lot about these topics, but we think it of the utmost importance that the overall message on mental health comes from the church - full of hope, resources, and life-changing power!

First of all, we want to invite EVERYONE in our church to attend our upcoming mental health seminar with Bob MacGregor: Healing Fear, Anxiety, and Depression in the Church - March 18-19th. This will be a benefit to all of us, whether we struggle with mental health issues, or not. Bob will unpack how we as the church can integrate the spiritual as well as the physical, and bring healing to the mind and soul. Please register today!

Secondly, we want you to know that you are not alone! Several of our staff have struggled with mental health issues, or have walked with a loved one through it.

We believe and have seen depression and anxiety healed in the name of Jesus in an instant at our services. Please come up for prayer at any of our services, or fill out this prayer request form and our team will be praying.

God’s goodness, faithfulness, and healing often take place in many other ways as well, often through therapists, doctors, and even physical health disciplines! We want to make sure you are supported and have the resources you may need as we talk about and dig into mental health.

We will be praying for healing over these topics! We will also be talking about practical things we can do to help with anxiety and depression, such as:

  • LIMITING social media time (And all interactive screen time)

  • Eating balanced and healthy meals

  • Not isolating yourself but instead socializing with safe people

  • Being physically active! Working out, taking walks,

  • Drinking enough water

  • Seeing a doctor or therapist

  • Reading the bible consistency

  • Praying everyday

We are willing to meet up and spend time with you one on one to the best of our ability and help in any way we can. FAQ

#1 What do I do if someone I know has anxiety, depression or struggles with suicidal thoughts?

  • We recommend practicing your hypothetical response now. It can be scary and shocking to hear this from someone you know. But reflecting that fear and shock can be damaging. Instead, practice responding in love and compassion.

  • Do not overlook or deny their feelings. As much as we’d love to think we know them better than they do, the truth is, we may not.

  • Provide them with a safe place to keep sharing. Let them know they can talk to you about it anytime and anyplace. Maybe create a safe word or phrase that they can tell you in public if they start to feel overwhelmed. We have found that just having someplace to share those feelings without giving them the power to overwhelm themselves but instead use just a “signal word” to let someone know they are struggling has been very helpful.

  • Do not overlook the power of a counselor or doctor, especially if they are having suicidal thoughts. Gently find out if they have any plans/means to their suicidal thoughts. If they have come up with plans, we highly recommend seeking professional help in the means of doctors and/or therapists.

  • Reach out to a pastor if you need help supporting yourself or others.

  • Pray for them! We believe and know the power of prayer is not to be overlooked!

#2 How do I start the process of finding a counselor?

Our staff is happy to connect with you to get you started! Another great place to start is a visit to your primary healthcare provider, who may have insight on who is available or who would be most helpful based on your circumstances. We also recommend taking a look at Better Help, an online platform for therapy.

#3 What if I don’t have health insurance or counseling is not a covered benefit?

There are many programs available for you to receive the help you need. An appointment with your primary healthcare provider is a great start, and discuss your insurance. Many online platforms do not require insurance, such as Better Help, and some have financial assistance programs as well.

#4 How do i set up screen time limits for social media and other apps on my or my friends’ phone?

As you explore the possibilities of setting up boundaries on phones you might want to look into parental controls for inappropriate websites at the same time.

#5 How can I learn more about the topics of anxiety, fear, and depression?

The church worldwide has some fantastic resources!

We recommend the following books:

  • When God Becomes Real by Brian Johnson

  • Cleaning Up Your Mental Mess by Dr. Caroline Leaf

  • I Declare War – Levi Lusko

  • Battlefield of the Mind – Joyce Meyer
